# Subtitle Workbench

> Free browser-local SRT subtitle checker and time shifter.

Check SubRip (.srt) formatting, timeline overlaps, reading speed, line length, and minimum duration. Shift all cues by the same offset and export normalized SRT. No account or API key required. Format errors block export; review findings require a viewing decision. Overlap findings name one intersecting block each; checking preserves cue order.

Files are processed in the browser. A connected AI assistant may read the text you ask it to work on. No transcription, translation, WebVTT conversion, automatic audio alignment, or variable-drift correction is provided.

## Worked guides

- [Find an SRT timestamp error without losing a cue](https://subtitleworkbench.com/guides/srt-timestamp-errors.md): Read a SubRip block, separate formatting from timing problems, and make the smallest safe correction.

- [Move every SRT subtitle earlier or later](https://subtitleworkbench.com/guides/shift-srt-subtitles.md): Choose the correct offset, understand negative-time protection, and recognize drift that a fixed shift cannot solve.

- [Understand a subtitle reading-speed warning](https://subtitleworkbench.com/guides/subtitle-reading-speed.md): Calculate characters per second and use it as an editorial signal without mistaking it for an accessibility certificate.

- [Decide whether a subtitle overlap needs fixing](https://subtitleworkbench.com/guides/subtitle-overlap.md): Find overlapping cues, including a long subtitle spanning several shorter ones, and choose a repair using the video.
